In the end we cleaned up all the wrapping paper, made some fresh-squeezed lemonade, ate cupcakes and joked about the time mommy went crazy with picture taking. It looks homemade and so much like something my mom would have dressed me or my sister in when we were little that I thought it was perfect for this special day. I’m not sure who enjoyed the gift opening festivities more Lila or Luke, but luckily all the new toys and treasures were shared and no babies got injured fighting to dig through the boxes. I only got one picture with me and the kids where there were no nose pickers 😀 If I could do it all again I would squeeze daddy in there too! By this time I had taken way too many pictures and lost dad to fantasy football.Īnd then it was present time! Lila got so many cute and fun gifts from her Oma, Opa, Grammy, Nana, Papa and Aunties all over the country! She even taste-tested some of the decorations. ….and play with a ton of lemons and yellow balloons. They were tasty though! And Lila got to wear one of mommy’s necklaces….

I’m a little sad that I packed away all my cake decorating tips in the move. I planned to make lemon cupcakes for the occasion but Kyle opted for the French vanilla box I bought as a backup 😀 So just imagine that these are lemon. I covered up the princess crowns on the banner with some more DIY hand drawn lemons on printer paper to fit the theme I was going with. The cute little banner and cake topper were a package deal on Amazon for $6 ( here). I used my nicer camera for our little photoshoot, but afterwards I realized I need a little more practice with all the fancy settings to keep up with the kids! I ended up with lots of blurry but happy pictures. ……and they made the best lemonade (well technically Kyle made the lemonade.) They were the perfect prop for keeping Lila still in mooost of her photos…. I just bought this tri-fold presentation board from Walmart for under $3 and two tubes of craft paint for $0.50 each and got to work painting what I hoped would look like lemons and leaves. I wanted something cute and sweet in the background as she smashed her first cupcake and opened her gifts, so I came up with this lemon backdrop: Here is a little birthday announcement image I made for Lila’s special day. I swapped out my home DIY’ing skills for cutesy baby girl birthday decor making! I love Canva and use it for all my blog photos. My babies are growing faster than I can believe! I KNOW they aren’t going to remember what they did on their first birthdays or what the decorations were like, but I only get to throw them a first birthday ONCE! So even though it was just Kyle and I with the kids (our families all live in different states) I wanted a birthday to remember….at least in pictures.

I always thought if I was ever going to have kids, I was going to be very cool and collected about all the milestones, but now that I am really a mom and I see how fast the time flies I can get a tiny bit sappy and over the top (For the record, if Kyle read that last sentence he would say, “A tiny bit?!” Haha). Last weekend our littlest baby turned 1! It was an emotional day for me as a mommy, because Kyle and I don’t plan to have any more munchkins.
